Moved over to xplane 11 today in vr- fantastic flightsim

Thursday, July 19, 2018

It all began about 7 years ago .

Looking about on the net trying to get all the info needed to start a build I came upon a learjet sim that was being built in polmont in scotland .

I contacted Douglas and he gave all the information I needed ,his wealth of expertise was immense on
 the subject .

I decided to build a 737 simulator first trying to gain enough experience to move on to the cessna 152 airframe .

I was learning to fly in the 152, so it made sense to build a sim which was the same aircraft I was learning to fly in .
The airframe came from scone at perth scotland, registration gbktv which last flew about 10 years ago.

The first thing to do was to fit centering springs and potentiometers to the real controls ,these were made from plastic knex cogs and pots off eBay, then interfaced all the controls via a Leo Bodnar input output card into xplane 11.

Once that was done it was time to get the avionics fitted .
The comm1/nav1 is a unit from emuteq ,the front of the GPS 530 was made for me by a very good friend, also the audio panel and transponder was made by John.

Moving on to the outside views I started with 3 projectors, but because they were always overheating and a nightmare to align ,I decided to use 3 tv's, here's a wee link

Then the oculus virtual reality headset came on the market with flyinside and I was blown away .

I now use the oculus sitting in the left seat with all the real controls interfaced into fsx via flyinside and it is as real as it gets .

If anyone wants to know the in's and out's of the build just let me know.

Just for a bit of nostalgia here's a wee clip showing gbktv flying at cumbernauld
